New Conversations for Reproductive Freedom 2006 will be a two day symposium intended to educate Georgians on issues that have traditionally been, or are being, marginalized or silenced within the mainstream Pro-Choice and Reproductive Rights Movement. While we welcome proposals which focus on more traditional reproductive rights topics (i.e., birth control, emergency contraception, abortion, sex education, etc?), we challenge presenters to approach them through a different lens and from a different angle (suggested topics below).
We are looking for strong, innovative, dynamic, challenging and fresh proposals for workshops/activities, papers/presentations, films/documentaries and panels.
All proposals must clearly have and explicitly state a connection to reproductive health, rights or justice. Women of color; lesbian, transgender and queer communities; youth (under 25); women with disabilities; low-income women and Southern women are strongly encouraged to submit proposals.
The deadline for submitting proposals is August 31, 2006.
We are particularly interested in proposals that look at (in no order):
- Parenting, HIV/AIDS, LGBT/Queer families, reproductive technology, young mothers.
- Holistic healthcare, dangerous contraceptives, physician-dependent healthcare, midwives, women-centered healthcare, capitalism and women’s bodies, pharmaceutical companies.
- People of faith, religion, spirituality, communities of color, history of the religious right, the role of faith in the reproductive freedom movement.
- White supremacy, the politics of whiteness, white leadership, tokenism, cooptation, identity politics, being allies to women of color, giving up power.
- Women of color, organizing, support, turn over, tokenism, identity politics, white supremacy, racism, HIV/AIDS, eugenics, economic justice, population control.
- Violence against women, sexual assault, rape, incest, domestic violence, family.
- Sexuality, gender, LGBT and queer communities, trans reproductive healthcare services, heterosexism, homophobia, parenting, adoption, HIV/AIDS, women’s sexualities, ally-hood.
- Sex trafficking, the sex industry, prostitution, pornography.
Men, masculinity, being allies to women, transgender politics, homophobia. - Youth, youth activism, sex education, parental consent, ageism, queer youth.
- Adoption, transnational and transracial adoption, social services and systems, foster care.
- Frameworks for the movements (i.e., pro-choice, healthcare, justice).
- Movement building, sustainability past Roe v. Wade, legislative policies, identity politics.
- Women in prison, the prison industrial complex, women of color, violence against women.
- Disability, ableism and abortion, eugenics, accessibility of our movement including clinics.
- Environmental politics and racism, pre-natal health, eco-feminism, population control.
- Sex Education, abstinence-only programs, sexuality education, women’s sexualities
- Immigration politics and abortion, health care, economic justice, culturally relevant services, sex trafficking.
- HIV/AIDS, domestic/global politics, women of color, addiction, forced sterilization.
- “Choice,” “Access,” “unborn child,” alternative messaging.
- Georgia politics, the South and reproductive freedom, southern organizing, national politics.

Proposals must include:
- A one page detailed description of presentation, including how it connects and relates to reproductive rights, health and justice; the topics and activities the presentation will include as well as relevant experience of presenter(s).
- Specific format of workshop/presentation (i.e., lecture with question and answer, discussion group, brief presentation with discussion/activity, etc?)
- A list of all resources needed: audio/visual equipment, power point, spatial requirements, limit of people, etc?

Currently, NCRF operates on a tight budget. We will not be able to provide monetary compensation to presenters, but all presenters may attend NCRF for free.
