Admin: Blog technical problems
Published by Christina Huggins August 31st, 2006 in Admin, AnnouncementsI received an email from one of our subscribers this morning professing a problem with the links to events posted to this blog. From what I could gather, it looks like (at least for some people), you can’t access posts for upcoming events unless you are registered for the blog and are logged in (if you try the links, you just get a 404 error).
I’ve never noticed this problem before, and this is the first complaint I’ve gotten, although I did experience this problem myself when I logged out of the blog and tried the links.
If you’re a regular to this blog, and have experienced problems accessing some of the content, please comment on this post and let me know (I’d like to get a sense of how widespread this problem is). In the meantime, I’ll try to figure out what how to fix this issue. The plugin that I use to generate the calendars is sometimes a bit buggy — so it may involve tweaking or upgrading this plugin (which may take a while).
I apologize for any inconvenience, and I’ll try to get everything up and working properly soon!
I am a regular subscriber to your updates. I, too, experienced a problem with the latest round of announcements. When I click on the links (either in the e-mail announcement you send or on your blog) I get a page telling me there’s been a “404 - not found” error.
Thanks for your very helpful service!
Justin: So, is this the first time you’re having problems (i.e., you were able to use the links fine in the past)? If so, that’s really strange, as I haven’t made any changes to the blog that would explain the change.
How frustrating!
Yes, this is the first time I’ve had problems. I am working from a different computer, but I am using the same software (Windows / Explorer) as I have in the past.
I am working from the same pc as I always do, and cannot read the announcements. I have had not problems in the past.
I was equally unable to open the links and got instead the same result as Justin reports. I can’t contribute to clarifying the history of the problem, though, since I am new on the blog. (You may still like to know that I found most of the announced conferences and CFPs with little effort on the web - which was of course a bit more inconvenient but rendered your post in fact as useful as it was intended to be.)
