SUNY Stony Brook University of Chicago
To me, it makes a deep difference where I am writing from. It makes a profound difference whether I am writing from the place of our possibilities as companions in play or from the place “in between,” the place of pilgrimage, of liminality; from the place of resistance, the place “within,” or from across “the other side,” where light and dark are highlighted.
–María Lugones, Pilgrimages/Peregrinajes
Graduate students are invited to submit papers that explore the tradition of Continental philosophy beyond its traditional borders, geographically and topically. We desire to create dialogues that take seriously the relevance of Europe’s philosophical inheritance, while continuing and challenging this critical legacy on a global terrain. Continental philosophy has problematized language, history, subjectivity, and power within the western tradition; these conceptual commitments require continual interrogation in order to guarantee their relevance. On our view, this work of contextualization has implications not only for political philosophy, but also for metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, ontology, aesthetics, and so on.
Papers from a variety of periods, approaches, and topics will be considered, whether ancient or contemporary, psychoanalytic or analytic. We also welcome interdisciplinary projects and encourage submissions that take up questions of race, sexuality, class, and sexual difference.
Submission Deadline: January 31, 2007
Authors should email their submissions to depaulgraduatestudents@gmail.com. Papers should not exceed 3000 words and should be accompanied by a short abstract. As all papers are subject to blind review, papers should not include your name or any other identifying marks. Your paper title and personal information (name, institutional affiliation, and phone contact) should be included in the body of the email.
