CFP: Ethics and Animals
Last date for paper submission: Fri, 01 Sep 2006
The Society for the Study of Ethics & Animals meets in conjunction with the Divisional Meetings of the American Philosophical Association. Papers are hereby invited for all 2007 meetings: Pacific in late March or early April, Central in late April or early May, and Eastern in late December.
Submission Deadlines (email postmark) are as follows:
2007 Pacific Meeting September 1, 2006
2007 Central Meeting September 1, 2006
2007 Eastern Meeting April 30, 2007
Papers are welcome on any topic concerning ethical issues affecting nonhuman animals. Possible topics include (but are not limited to):
The Moral Status of Animals
Animals and Ethical Theory
Ethical Vegetarianism
Animal Experimentation
Animal Minds; Animal Cognition; or Animal Language Acquisition and Use
Animals and the Law
Animals in the History of Philosophy
Animals in Education
Animals and Environmental Ethics
Civil Disobedience and Direct Action for Animals
Critical Discussion of Recent Work
Teaching Ethics and Animals Issues
The Ethics of Animal Research.
The Epistemology of Animal Research.
Vegetarianism in Religious Traditions.
Companion Animals, Paternalism, and Community.
The Importance of Animal Issues in Philosophy.
The Justifiability (or Unjustifiability) of Animal Liberation Front Activities.
Historical Studies of Conceptions of the Moral Standing of Nonhumans.
The Moral Significance (if any) of Genetic Engineering or Other Biotechnology.
Animal Liberation and Environmental Ethics.
The Ethics of Hunting.
The Propriety of Pet-Keeping.
Xenotransplantation and Related Issues.
Other Moral Issues (e.g., Abortion, Children’s Rights, World Hunger, etc.) as They Relate to Animal Issues
A system of blind refereeing is used. Papers should be a maximum of 3500 words [Include word count on cover page]. Papers should be double-spaced, with one inch margins, using an 11 or 12 point font. Only electronically submitted papers prepared for blind reviewing will be considered. Papers should be submitted in MSword, .rtf, or .pdf format. Your name, affiliation,
contact information and paper word count should appear on a separate cover page and should also appear in the body of your email message. Send submissions to:

A 150 word abstract should accompany the paper. BE SURE TO INDICATE THE MEETING FOR WHICH THE PAPER IS BEING SUBMITTED!
