Call for Papers: In Honor of Iris Marion Young (1949-2006)

Hypatia: A Journal of Feminist Philosophy is seeking papers for a Special Issue dedicated to the life and work of Iris Marion Young, to be guest edited by Christina M. Bellon. The aim of the issue is to underscore Young’s unique contribution to philosophy, political theory, and feminism, as well as to demonstrate the future development of her work through critique, refinement, and expansion. Thus, papers are invited on any aspect of Young’s work.

Possible topics include, but are by no means restricted to:

* Gender and the Phenomenology of Embodiment
* Family and Home
* Participatory Democracy
* Justice
* Politics of Difference, Identity, and Multiculturalism
* Asymmetrical Reciprocity
* Self-Determination and Self-Development
* Faces of Oppression

Authors should be aware that completed papers will be limited to 8,000 words, inclusive of notes and bibliography, and are to be submitted by 15 June 2007. The selection process begins with extended abstracts of 350-400 words, clearly indicating the thesis and argument anticipated in the completed paper. Abstracts should be prepared for anonymous review and accompanied by a cover letter identifying it as a submission for the Special Issue on Iris Marion Young. The deadline for submissions of abstracts is 15 January 2007. Abstracts should be submitted by electronic attachment in Word or WordPerfect to Christina Bellon at bellon@csus.edu .
