London Undergraduate Philosophy Conference 2007
Begins: Mon, 19 Mar 2007
Ends: Mon, 19 Mar 2007
Location:
London School of Economics London UK
Last date for paper submission: Mon, 18 Dec 2006
The LSE is holding a one-day undergraduate philosophy conference in March 2007. Undergraduate students in UK universities are invited to submit papers for the conference. Papers in any area of analytic philosophy – be it ethics, metaphysics, epistemology, philosophy of science etc. – are
welcome. Papers will be selected on the basis of clarity, precision of thought, and depth of knowledge. The word limit is flexible: papers can be between 2,500 and 3,500 words, which is roughly equivalent to twenty to thirty minutes reading or presentation time. A question and answer session will follow each reading\presentation.
Our keynote speaker is Professor Luc Bovens (to be confirmed), author of Bayesian Epistemology (OUP, 2003) (with Stephan Hartmann) and numerous articles on ethics, rational choice, probability, philosophy of public policy, and philosophy of economics. His most recent article - ‘The Rhythm Method and Embryonic Death’ Journal of Medical Ethics, 32, (2006), pp. 355- 56 - was reviewed in the New York Times.
Though primarily designed for undergraduate students, anyone with an interest in undergraduate level philosophy is welcome to attend the conference. Registration is highly recommended - in order to help us gauge numbers - but not necessary.
Those wishing to register their intention to attend the conference or want more information should contact ph.ug.conference@lse.ac.uk .
Papers should be submitted to ph.ug.conference@lse.ac.uk . Papers submitted should be prepared for blind review (i.e. a separate page at the beginning of the paper with name, university affiliation, and contact details) and in Microsoft Word (preferred) or pdf format.
Deadline for submission of papers is Monday, 18th December 2006. Those who have submitted a paper will know whether their paper has been accepted by the end of January 2007; the conference programme will be released by February 2007.
A dinner will be scheduled after the conference: please contact us if you are interested in attending.
Unfortunately, we cannot arrange accommodation: those who wish to attend the conference and need accommodation in London must make their own arrangements. However, we are happy to provide information and recommendations on accommodation in London on request.
