Philosophy and Responsibility

Theme: A Day of Φιλο-ΣοΦια (Philo-Sophia): Friendship and Philosophical Discussion

Begins: Tue, 28 Nov 2006

Ends: Tue, 28 Nov 2006

Location:

Murdoch University

Australia

Last date for paper submission: Mon, 02 Oct 2006

The Murdoch Philosophy Association, together with the Murdoch School of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Division of Arts, invites abstracts of 250 words for twenty-minute papers in any field of philosophy, or papers that present philosophical perspectives on other fields of the humanities and sciences.

The theme of the Colloquium Philosophy and Responsibility reflects philosophy’s two-fold nature: it is and must be a responsible practice in its own right, but philosophy is also an activity of reconsidering the issues of our (epistemological, ontological, ethical, social, political, aesthetic) responsibilities in the world.

The Colloquium will be held at Murdoch University on Tuesday, November the 28th and is open to academics, and undergraduate and postgraduate students. Papers will be refereed, and a certificate will be awarded for the best student paper.

The first Colloquium was held successfully in November 2005. Our goal is to once again provide a forum for the vital exchange of ideas in a supportive, collegial atmosphere, as well as to foster ties between philosophy departments, staff and students. It is our hope that this year we can continue to build upon the achievements of last year’s Colloquium.

We look forward to receiving your abstract before
